Highway Department Reports

The Highway Department works out of the Town Garage at 20 Reynolds Street.  If you need service from the Department, call the Town Garage at (802) 459-2789.  In the event of an emergency requiring assistance from the Highway Department, call (802) 459-3333 extension 17 and leave a detailed message.  The Road Commissioner will be paged immediately.

The Proctor Highway Department is staffed with three full-time employees including the Road Commissioner.  The Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Town roads, bridges, sidewalks, the storm water collection system, and public lands and buildings.  They also assist the Water & Sewer Department, Recreation Programs, the Transfer Station and others as needed when help and heavy equipment is needed.  The Department operates a variety of equipment including dump trucks, backhoe, loader, mowing equipment, and all types of power tools.

In addition to routine operation and maintenance work (snow plowing, applying calcium chloride, mowing, and many more minor tasks) the Department develops an annual work plan to provide more focused improvement to the town’s highway infrastructure. The Proctor Selectboard approves the Highway Department work plan.  The work plan for Fiscal Year 2011 (July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011) was approved on May 24, 2010.
